Why do you guys keep sharing articles about banning cars. We come to Jalopnik for a reason. Keep it on Gizmodo where it belongs, if people want to see it they’ll go there.

I just love how it’s always “This city is going to ban cars for a month, what a great thing!” then a month later the headline is always “The city’s car ban didn’t actually do anything, other than inconvenience the populous... but it’s still a great thing!”

I think Jalopnik does it so Jalopnik and Oppo posters go there into the comments section to give a different perspective.
That’s my reasoning anyways, and I’m sticking to it.

So you would prefer that there should be no dissenting voices in those conversations? They could just keep the discussion in the NYC echo chamber, where who needs cars anyway, public transportation is the easily available solution to all car-related problems, but instead they offer us car nuts the opportunity to rebut their arguments.

I usually see an article about banning cars and automatically assume she wrote it. Then, I move on. Her views are so biased, it's amazing.

I think she’s made 2 or 3 of those ‘it didn’t work, but should be done anyways’ “articles”.

I know making her persona non grata here is crossing the line, but...

I feel like the problem is by posting it to Jalopnik you’re going to get the FP assholes that want to light her up and just go into a rant and shit. Like why even bother starting a flame war by cross posting. It’s like FP is a secret troll and it makes the rest of us car nuts look bad.

The other problem I have is that even if she is a decent author with a fair opinion, all of her titles are clickbaity as hell which only adds fuel to the ensuing flame war that starts.

I’ve always thought that Jalopnik readers were smart enough to hold two ideas in their head at the same time and judge each on their own merit. Maybe I’m wrong.

I’ve said it before: she’s the new Diaz. They need someone to write click bait articles and make people angry. She’s basically a troll for gizmodo. If you ignore her, she’ll eventually go away.
The big difference is, she won't go into the comments like Diaz. I imagine she's too busy huffing her own smug farts while she tells herself what a good job she did.

The problem is perspective...To the readers, THIS IS NOT THEIR JOB. They are on Jalopnik BECAUSE they like cars, NOT to get told they suck and should go away...
You wouldn’t pay for a movie you already know you don’t like...so why would you want to spend some of your free time (by reading Jalopnik) being told your interests are shit(by a anti-car writer)?

I agree that most Jalopnik readers are smart enough to do that. However I feel that by cross posting it opens it up to all the trolls that would never see it on Gizmodo. Personally I go on both sites as I’m sure a lot of us do. I respect her opinion as well, but I think with titles like “Car bans should be permanent” it just going to piss off some Jalopnik readers, so why even bother basically intentionally pissing of your reader base. This is just my opinion of course and not meant to be an attack on you or Alissa.

That’s another issue I have with her. She posts something clickbaity and then runs away. Like if you’re going to put out an article that sparks controversy, and there’s no way she doesn’t think it will, then at least be prepared to hold your stance and be ready to discuss it with people that are for and against it, don’t just drop an article and run away like a child, we are all adults here and can hand some criticism, just like she should be able to if she is a published author.

This. I come to Jalopnik because I like cars and want to read about them and how great they are, not have someone tell me that my passion needs to be banned.

Matt, please try and ignore them.
There are plenty of us who are intelligent enough to understand that cars are incredibly important but unregulated emissions, over crowding and you know, not being able to BREATHE can also be an issue that might be more important.
an 18% drop in particulates in the air, is a hell of a good start. I can’t imagine not being able to breathe outside. I’ve always said you can pry the keys of my zero emission controlled Montego from my cold dead heads.
The situation in Delhi says that if I were living there, that may happen a hell of a lot sooner than we think.

Insulting us is definitely the way to start a constructive conversation. Way to start off on the right foot.

it is shared to Jalopnik so we have a chance to debate it in the comments. If it weren’t shared to Jalopnik we might miss is and the comments would be all one sided.

I think people would give her more credit if she responded to her critics. She doesn’t allow for a dialogue. With her it’s one sided and extremely narrow minded. Diaz used to drive me nuts but he at least had the guts and dignity to defend his views.

Ok...how about this.
Would you put a post up on the Jezebel front page titled “Women are weaker and therefore deserve to get paid less!!!”?
How would the Jezebel readers react?
Would you make the same “...two ideas in their head...” post in defense of the writer?
